My experience learning English at university

My experience in this subject has been very educational. In Sociology I've never read in English. Actually, if I'm not mistaken, they never ask us to read any text in English or any other language. (Maybe is something good or bad but if a theme to other occasion). So, I never practice talk or reading in English till last semester when I remember I have to take this course (I forget take it two semester ago). These courses have been my only opportunity at university to practice my English and they have been even better than my English subjects at school. Here I can talk with others people who are in a similar lever with me. We can learn from each other.
The blogs are something innovative to me. It was my first time I have to write something totally in English and not only complete a sentence. Is a nice experience written freely about things I know or I'm interesting. In other words it makes easier learn this language.
About what I think I have to improved, I believe I have to progress with how I talk, my pronunciation and the modulation. I think I can practice with my father. He is trilingual (He knows Spanish, English and French) from school (A public school, which is a great achievement if it were a school of these times), but is a bit awkward because maybe he will yell at me when I make a mistake.
Unfortunately, I'm not using my English in real world so much. Only when I'm searching information about something and I use a source from other countries like a book in English or a website. I hope when I get a job as a sociologist I could practice what I learn.

Bye to everyone :)

Change to my study program!

Before I start, everyone has to know in this year (2017) the Sociology programme was remodelled and the majority of subject changed, so did how we get graduate. I don't know much about all of these changes... actually I should know about this but I can't remember it right now, but to do this entry I will avoid all of this and think never happened.

So, to begin with, we can say the programme is a varied one. It reaches a lot of interesting themes in every subject, but a lot are elective course. This may cause a lot of things we think are basics to be a Sociologist are left behind by some students, like Sociology of Gender. The only other thing we can say is "bad" with the curriculum is the majority of knowledge goes around work themes. It is something is already changing, but the ego is stil there. Always happen that one or two students, or even a teacher, are minimizing because the path they choose.

If we talk about building and technology, Sociology in Universidad de Chile is recently updating these things. Is not a university with a lot of money, so they always go into debt and compete with other universities to gain money through projects in the State. Specifically in my career just by now they finish a new building to have more office because the professors work under bad condictions for years. About technology we are not so bad. In the last three years the career start updating all the computer programs we use in the career so we can approach to a more real work experience

Winter Holidays

I've been in this university around six years and me and everyone I know think vacations are a myth or a custom lost in history. I get here in 2012 and my only winter holidays happened in 2014. I think I'm already used to the stress and pressure of trying to fit 2 month of classes and exams in 1 week. I remember that in 2013 my semester finished a Wednesday and the next one started the next day. To sum up, my memories of Winter Holidays suck.

I have to say: I enjoy that glorious Winter Holidays of 2014. I didn't go anywhere, but I spend a lot of time playing with my dog (He died next year) and viewing series and movies in my bed. Is the right opposite of I usually do, but I wish i could do it again.

I lost hope of having vacations in university (anyway I don't care so much, but thinking like that is bad), but till now this year maybe (just maybe) will be different. There is no strike at sight or any kind of occupation, so maybe I could pass my subjects with confidence that any irregularity will affect us. Finally I will plan my lonely trip to Punta Arenas or maybe with 1 or 2 friends. Is something I've been planning since I work last summer in Correos Chile. My cousins live there so i will not spend in a residency or something like that. My final objective is go over Torres del Paine.

Postgraduate Studies...

Hi everyone! Today I'm going to write about my desire of having a post-grade in a near future.

As I already said, I study sociology, so, the number of course I can take is enormous and varied. It is a bit difficult to choose between any of the options that my university offers me. Luckily, last year I realised I don't like any of these options. I consider them lame. Many are useful, but there are to much people already studying these course or to much people are going to be in these course, so it will be overpopulated soon.

The postgraduate course I want to take is not imparted by my university or any other. It's call "Master in International Relationship, Security and Defence" and it's given by the ANEPE (Academia Nacional de Estudios Políticos y Estratégicos), an institution that answer to the Ministry of Defence. Commonly, these kind of studies are set aside and no one try to integrate in the Academy.

I want to make something useful with my studies and I think this post-grade will be a great idea. Normally, a lot of people think these matters are for conservative people, but obviously they are wrong. If we don't re-take themes like Security or Defence, problems like Mapuche conflict will continue without a real solution and the State Terrorism will never end

This is a bad interpretation and application for the concept of security >:(

My future job!!

Today I'm going to talk about my future job, or the job I expect I would have in the future.

I'm studying sociology and i like Public Policy area. Basically to me, is the method the sociologist have to contribute in a physically way to real world problems. Besides this, I've another interest i would like to mix with public policies and is Security and Defense themes. I think is a topic a lot of people avoid or simply dislike because existing of a lot of prejudice about it.

With these interests I expect working in a municipality helping to solve problems like how we are treating crime, inclusion or immigrant's issue. As Sociologist we have a lot to contribute, but there are not so many of us who investigate these stuff so it will be a difficult task to achieve.
In the Municipalities I would have to work with COREs, which job is make the people participate in their community, and think public policies to improve the quality of life of people.

If this didn't work for me I want another job. I want to dedicate to cook. Not necessary be a chef, but cook and gain the necessary to live doing my hobby. Maybe work in a bakery or any like that. At least is more funny than sociology jeje
